Your podcast today about debunking Scripture memory myths was very encouraging. Thank you for speaking truth in love.
I am 75 years old and I have been memorizing with Scripture Memory Fellowship since I was 10 years old when it was called Bible Memory Association (BMA) I have always loved to memorize Bible verses; you just have to want to and then you can do it; and SMF has the tools to help you learn and want to memorize!
I was blessed by this podcast. Especially the point that having a phone in our pocket is not enough.
The myth I believed was it was too hard and tedious. Like the person Randy mentioned first. My breakthrough was when I learned to not do it all at once. It takes the brain time to move information from short term memory to long term and repetition spaced out made a huge difference for me. It was much less tedious. Beginners probably should not spend more than 5 minutes at a time.
An analogy I like is about planting a garden. You can work all day planting a garden and you go out the next day and all you can see is bare dirt. Many verses I have learned have spoken to me in a special way a year after I learned them.
Lastly I have recently thought of the question to ask the reluctant. The cover of your Bible says “Holy Bible”, is it Holy to you?
